History of Amputation

When it became apparent that amputation could possibly save lives. The success ratios weren't quite as high as they are today.

I'm not going to get into statistics on this as I have seen many different results.

Fact is through experimentation and documentation surgery techniques have been improved Prosthetic limbs have been improved and post care such as physiotherapy, and rehabilitation processes have also been implemented.

This has made post surgery a little more bearable than what it was like only a few short years ago.

This research has also meant that survival rate is higher and success of recovery to a normal functional life is also higher.

Technologies Advancing

Below is featured a friend of mine, in the photo he is showing me the bruising he puts up with everyday.

Through my research on this topic I have been touched in many ways.

I have found it simply amazing to see what people go through.

It is only recently that amputees have had the equipment available to them to become mobile in a 70% or more capacity.

To achieve this wonderful technology many have suffered through years of pain and incapacity.

It is a wonderful thing that technology has found it a viable market place,

but is it a good thing to have so many amputees?????

Friend Showing Bruise on Stump

Even with mordern legs and the best of surgery, amputees still suffer. Most just do it quietly.

Exercise

Research shows that Exercise is reduced with immobility and mobility is reduced without exercise.

The two fall hand in hand. It's as simple as if you sit down all day you will gain weight.

As an amputee it is important to keep fit and to maintain a balanced weight.

To make your prosthetic always fit and to remain healthy.

As a large majority of amputations are caused through illness it is even more critical to remain healthy.

It can become very difficult when you are immobilized.

See http://www.hydraujoint.com if you are having trouble with this.

Amputees future looking up

I was sent this link by a follower at Twitter, it is amazing where this new technology is going.

Thought I would share it with you.

You're so right when you say that exercise is reduced with immobility and mobility is reduced without exercise. That's why amputees need special trainers to help them exercise and stay healthy.

What do you think of the GlideCycle, as a trainer for amputees?
